What is Indian culture?

Hai all...there was a question discussed here...my views are posted...

1. what is culture?...is it the way we live? or the way we are supposed to live? Combined family, 'one man-one woman', indian way of ushering, 'food is medicine', traditional way of using herbs for beautification or hygiene of the body...are they not good points of our culture?

Ans..Culture means the way we live now (mental, physical and social), our definition of life, beliefs...not what is there in the books...how we are supposed to live is what is in the books...no point just keeping in books...and boasting that our culture is the best!...this others have to look at us, change their life style and follow ours and after experiencing they have to say that our culture is the best!!...let us take 'food is medicine'...if it is being followed then our people should not have life style diseases...it is only in books...we don't follow!!...where are we using natural herbs for beautification or body hygiene?...all good things are only in books...not in practice!!

Combined family had its pluses and minuses...it had more pleasures and short spells of happiness...that is all...if we list down the negatives and take effort to correct it can be successful...but it is better to follow 'extended family' concept where the oldies live not inside the same house, but near by...this way most of the adaptability problems can be solved...people in both the houses can visit others by walk or by vehicle when ever they want to see or have supports...''one man-one woman' will remain valid physically and mentally if both are capable of giving each other the emotional, intellectual, physical, legal, social, and such other supports to each other...otherwise it breaks...if not physically at least mentally...indian way of ushering is also mostly in books, as, in today's busy life we are not able to provide accommodation and other things for more than a day...on the name of ushering giving coffee, tea, sweet etc for visitors, who are mostly diabetes patients makes it to be changed...and not worth continuing on the name of tradition and culture.
Cultures are not followed within four walls isolated from others outside...culture evolves and has to undergo changes as per changes around...

Also saying that indian culture is the best and rest all wrong is a frog in the well opinion.
