From some one's page...
"I just had a small conversation with my friend .....and it was on gender equality...i had this one incident which was because of my dear mom...my mom can make me feel embarrassed in public if i do something wrong...she is very hard on type lady..which i have to be little careful about.
So, i was on my annual holiday in Coimbatore riding a bus and my mom was also there ( i would have been in 4-5th std)...so there was this transgender who was also travelling in the bus and that's the first time i saw her and i was little scared.
I laughed and told my mom "mummy look there ..there's a man wearing a sari"....he he he..i was laughing..i think the person heard it and was smiling too...my mom got angry and she told me..."whats so funny...there are transgenders, never laugh at them..there are also humans...just treat them better...they go through a lot in life..respect them..don't do this next time"...and the people in the front and the back seat were like all gazing my eyes on me...i felt so embarrassed...oh god...but i think the person would also have got embarrassed when i laughed. My mom said sorry to the person on behalf of me and said i was looking at such person for the first time and he just said...that's fine..thank you for teaching that to your child...now that's what i stress...sometimes we teach our children wrong stuff and say this is how it is...and should be done....even if the child feels little weird about it...please don't enforce it when they are not comfortable because that will bring out a wrong perception on you... and ..when your child does wrong...tell them right away.. instead of thinking "Aww..she is my baby...how can i hurt her"...i have seen many parents doing it and i am like...why do you encourage this..it will be embarrassing but he/she will learn from the situation.
Then after this incident, whenever i saw transgender anywhere, if my mom is there i will see her and she will be like "you better don't laugh or you are done here"....but i love her for what she is...she taught me to know what compassion is all about...treating animals with equality..people with equality...and to be happy when life gives you all odds...she has gone through a lot...but that's what she feels that way ...now i have gone to such an extent when she does some mistake ..am like..you only told me to..now you are forgetting......i wish everyone treats everyone better...we can change so many things....anyways cheers guys..(Does anyone know a better way to call transgender...i myself find it weird to say that..because they deserve more than this little word")"

When we see them on the road, how to address them?"
my comments are below...
just call them 'akka'...or 'anna' or 'behenji' or 'brother' or 'sister' or 'bhaiyah'....they would love it...rather than using words that will indicate to them and others nearby that they are transgenders...
Beggars and mentally retarded (schizophrenic patients who are classified as 'Mad' people by us) can also be included in this list...it does not take even a minute for us to become like them. Just one accident anywhere or one tablet or one injection or one wrong medicine or one shocking incidence or death of a close person in our life, one shocking incidence....
