Hai all...
this is funny country where people have funny perceptions...here respect means...'obeying' the orders!...bending the body forward with slave or submissive feelings/emotions...not talking loud...not sitting in front of aged/socially or officially powerful people...touching the feet...worshiping...falling on the ground making the full body to touch the floor and worshiping...praising (some times too much)...being fearful...some of the behaviours like shouting, dancing, singing, being naughty, putting hands on shoulders, using words like vaadaa, podaaa, yennadi, sitting with one leg over the other, meesai murukking...etc..etc...there are many other behaviours...all these are considered as disrespectful.

If a person does all the behaviours which are considered respectful
then he is adored. He can do any other thing. No problem. They are
acceptable as good.
Many a times the person respecting knows he does not respect and the person who receives it also knows he or she does not respect from heart. But still they accept and like it. Real real funnnnnnnnny people and their culture!!!
In my opinion showing love and affection in behaviours, not being egoistic and being responsible to their roles and statuses in their respective social systems is what is giving respect. So, truly all the behaviours perceived as respectful are not actually respectful. Of course, where to draw the line and clear understanding of 'respect' while giving freedom while being in the social envelope needs to be decided by the two people concerned.
