there are two words in English...'educated' and 'learned'
almost all of us are today educated...we know everything...but diseases of body and mind do not see 'he knows. He has the knowledge. We should not attack!' etc.
definition of word 'learning' is 'any process that results in relatively permanent change in behaviour'...so, any reading or listening or personal experience should result in change in behaviour....overt or covert...it should be relatively permanent over time...only then we say that learning has taken place...the person has become learned...when the learning is right for the individual (as every individual is different with respect to him self and his living environment...natural and social) diseases of the body and mind do not attack...he is happy (a state of physical, mental and social wellbeing) ...he is healthy...he is peaceful...he is successful...he is self actualised...he is spiritual...going to temples or reading god related books or wearing an attire of sanyasi or guru or pandit etc or following rituals related to religion or caste etc does not make one free from diseases, peaceful, happy and self actualised. If that is so all those who go to temples and do all the above should be free from life style diseases, peaceful and happy...are they?...we mostly use god like an ATM machine or dhadha!
so, we should be learned and not educated.
There is no point in having ship load of knowledge and kilometres length of qualifications. How much of it we follow in life is what is important. Only this will make us noble.
No point in having a software on the computer. Only if we install, we will get the benefits of it.
also there is no point in having some knowledge or method that can not be followed (forever) in life. It is as good as waste. Whether it is written by a great guy or a small guy. It does not matter. What is the point in having something that is not useful for us?
Following 'sustainable behaviours' is what is important and that is what we don't do. We will go for exercise, but over do it, make it unsustainable and leave it.
So, let us be learned, and not 'educated'!
yes! Sometimes all the degrees that one accumulates and all the books that one reads, may also become a BIG burden, if and when, we keep carrying as a huge baggage in our minds and thinking we are well read or whatever else that we are capable of thinking! Best thing is to not carry the weight of our degrees with us all the time, as that will prevent us from seeing things as they are! Learn, Excel, Make others excel but don't carry any weight around! Then learning is bliss!
most of our people do only limited reading...this leads to a 'frog in well' situation where you tend to feel 'this is the only thing that is right!'...their brain only researches or analyses issues with the tool as 'what they know'. Leads to rigidity of personalities. When we read widely and wildly, travel a lot to observe and understand people, societies etc then we become open, flexible, ready to look at anything new also with welcome and open minds...moment we think that 'i am highly educated and i know every thing. I have lived on this earth for many decades and traveled widely. I know what is right or wrong!' then he can never grow, evolve and is a walking coffin!
