dear friends....
nice to see some comments and questions for the Delusional Disorder mail.....now read on....the comments / questions and answers / comments....
rams, interesting information. ..hmmmm.. .the main problem in treating mental conditions is the stigma attached to being labeled as a person having some psychological conditions.. .the shame and stigma attached to mental disorders makes a person and his / her family suffer the consequences rather than seek help...eppa thaan ithna condition maarumo?...society (ie us) should be able to treat mental abnormalities just as they would treat a physical sickness...that will make a big difference.. ...this is because we think that only 'mentals' and 'psychos' i.e 'paithhiyam' only go to psychiatrists. ...by the way such people do not go as they are out of sense of reality....we have also branded the psychiatrists as doctors who treat psycho cases....all because of our wrong understanding of this field of science..... .uneducated can feel so like this....but we educated should know that they help the normal people to live happily amidst problems.... they help us to protect our body and mind from causal factors..... normal people can protect themselves from mental illnesses through awareness... .only if it goes beyond control then the help of psychologists and psychiatrists will be required.... .but generally people are not aware and land up in the lap of doctors for life long medicines at some stage in life or remain unattended and suffer in loneliness as people slowly leave them...even the most significant people in life....like spouse, children, parents etc.....and seek their end!
here in US i see that rich people just go to a pscychiatrist (whom they call 'shrink') and pay tons of money just to lie down on a couch and talk whatever they want...all seemingly normal people also do that...i guess it gives them some kind of relief just to get their stress out of their system...don' t know though......it is because they want to share their conflicting / differing interpersonal beahviours, feelings, opinions, perceptions etc with a specialist who can give patient hearing and offer solutions... ..for them even the hearing is enough...... others do not have patience to hear such abstract things....that is the problem..... .our personality disorder case has changed phenomenally during the past few days......i feel he will become a normal guy in no time....because he is cooperative and experiencing the benefits through his increased cohesiveness in interpersonal relationships mainly with people at home......you may not understand the result unless you experience it!.....but only his wife, child and the other significant people know 'what a relief!' to be with him after the change.....but i had to spend hours....anyway. ....many are benefitted by his change...that is the relief!
itha ellam padicha, i feel all people will have some delusions... but as long as these delusions do not affect your day to day activities, i guess it should be ok...as we all know manam (mind) oru kurangu..... .you are perfectly right....as long as it does not affect self and others much it is ok.....when people are going away or say 'you need to look into' then the doctor's assistance is necessary, before it gets too bad.....(i had already listed the differences between the physiological and psychological problems to make you understand the gravity of psychological, behavioural and personality related problems....)
dear rams.....
As Arasu has told us to be patient and go slow ...... reading but not replying !
and for today's mail......( as it is tooooooooooo short ...)Rams , you are going to get nicely from Arasu .... or is he on vacation ?.....appaaadee... .only when i get some replies i feel that i am talking to people...otherwise i will feel i am talking in the air.....in fact my actual mail was little longer than the short....(hihihi) ....only the 'cut and paste' material had made it looooong!... ..anyway. ...that was for those who seek more indepth info....that is all.....!
Very interesting to learn about " mama" and all other informations but I am sure we can't remember any "technical terms " of the Psychological disorders by heart as we need not write any exams !
Even in your class tests we will answer as " mama problem " , "jogging guy problem " , thanni thelichu vitta case, the guy who wanted to become Purohit etc.,.....hihihi. ..it is ok.....
Is that ok Rams Sir ?
Cheers with DLB
JK
thank you JK for the encouraging mail....see you with more info....
Dear Rams,
i did read the following with full focus during reading time. I have the following question.
Mentiond Somatic Delusional Disorder (SDD) is up with 100% after 70 years of age, what could be percentage of SDD
will be present during 40 to 50 years of age......
Do you think, by going with arithmetics and kind of interpolation, extrapolation,
smoothening thoery of Kalman/ Wiener Filtering Algorithm, people in 40 to
50 years old almost have atleast 50% of SDD?.
In case not, is it that SDD act like inpulse signal just after crossing 70 year age?
( in my view only idea can be impulsive, but any physical system need to go
through non zero time constant to exhibit its function...hope i am Wrong!!!!)
Kind Regards
jk
hai jayakumar boss....nice to see your mail....enriched with your mathematical knowledge... ..reminded me of your lecture at MIT (USA).....now for the first question.... i did not mean that SDD is 100% after 70 yrs of age....the probability is more as the brain undergoes major physical change at this age and also the people at this age undergo lots of mental turmoil...both actuals and imagined...between 40 and 50 there is no physical change in the brain....however the life processes topple the individual with more problems.... declining profession, unsatisfied goals, unable to meet the demands of the unconcious mind, growing children-- managing their independency seeking behaviours and financial hardships, more family responsibilities from parents, wife, children etc, physical problems of wife due to menopause and managing her behaviours, own body developing illnesses like decreased eye sight, chronic diseases cropping up and their effect on mental health and behaviours, declining libido and its physiological and psychological effects, etc etc...body abuse of not taking balanced diet at the correct times, disturbed sleep cycles, male menopause and its effects....etc etc.....i can list nearly 50 such things....all these can affect the neuro transmitter secretions and put a person in SDD or anyother form of DD....generally the onset is at 40 and can happen anytime between 18 to 90 yrs of age (as some other mental or physical illness also can cause this...generally one mental illness brings in a host of other mental and physical illnesses! this is the biggest problem with the mental illnesses..therefor e we should not ignore them...but normally we pay more attention to physical illnesses and ignore mental illnesses as we perceive them to be normal or such 'behaviours' being identified as mental illnesses as 'normal'.... .till it blows up big....for more details see the EPIDEMIOLOGY para in the long mail at the end of this mail.....from this it is clear that we can not say surely that 50% is the probability. SDD like any other mental illnesses does not strike like an impulse unless there is a damage to the brain due to shocks (e.g loss of job and death of spouse, children etc), disease or trauma or surgery. Generally mental illnesses affect slowly and so very difficult to notice...only those who assiciate with the individuals for more time like wife, subordinates etc can make out.....DD is also such one....
ok....thank your friends for the mails and would be happy to receive more intriguing questions... ..of course....funny ones too....as life should not be always serious!.... if so then we will become 'serious' in ICU oneday!
see you tomorrow with more info about personality disorders... ..which are more prevalent among most of us....and we do not care about it......because atleast dependent significant people bear with us and live in peace(!) for the resourcefullness in us.....subordinates in organisations live with such bosses as they do not have choice...... ..such people are left alone in their old ages when the dependents become independent due to the prosperity of the children or feel unbearable and leave them....they live in loneliness, suffer many mental illnesses like depression and finally die unattended.. ..or grow beard and move around in places like kaasi, palani.....or move around in streets with Schizophrenia at some stage in life.....whom we refer to as 'paithiyam'. ....so, it is better to understand the personality disorders and correct at the earliest....
