the two Ps important in our career!

looks like few have watched the movie 'muthal mariyathai' after i mentioned about it...the question arises in the mind as to why the sivaji character has to live with vadivukkarasi character...because this is how our culture is made(!!!)...that is 'sacrifices'...we always find solutions for problems where sacrifices are involved!!...we perceive a person to be more loving when he or she sacrifices his happiness for us...Is it required?:-? thinking

we must remember that every problem has many solutions...and there is no problem without a solution!

we need to take the one which is better for all...but unfortunately our people take only those solutions where one or many have to sacrifice their happiness or good health or the path of achievements, for others...we need to think on this issue.

i can see many have joined their jobs recently after their college education......

ok...today i will tell about two important Ps...i.e Performance and Potential...the key words in our career!!!

when we do a job, performance tells about how well we do the job meeting the expectations of the boss...every job requires three things 1. knowledge 2. skill 3. experience...knowledge comes by reading relevant printed or written materials...by talking to people who know about it...by undergoing the training programme...skill comes when we do the job ourselves...initially under supervision...then without supervision...when we do a job repeatedly we gain experience...so every job requires knowledge, skill and experience. When we have all these we can do a job well. Our performance will be good. Of course, attitude should be positive aligned with the boss.

Now, performance only fetches fringe benefits...money, gifts, some packages, etc...it can not elevate you in the hierarchical ladder!...i.e you will not get promotions!...To get promotions or elevation, performance is only a necessary condition, but not a sufficient condition. Potential is what is required for promotions.

Every hierarchical position needs certain new and unique personality traits to be possessed. So, we need to find out these and groom ourselves towards that.

Most of us after joining our new jobs get entangled in only performance...ie doing the given job well. We also get complacent with the money, the comforts we get with the money, marriage, family, children, holidays, sight seeing etc...we tend to miss out on this potential building. Finally when we are not promoted, we get a feeling of rejection and feel sad, change attitude towards the organisation, leave the job, etc etc which affects our happiness, health and achievements including that of the people at home!!...in fact it is the job of the bosses to groom their subordinates for higher positions. It is their primary job!!!...Only some are this 'grooming' type but most of them are 'milking' type.

So, concentrate on your knowledge building, skill development and experience build up on the job...simultaneously  find out the personality traits, knowledge, skills etc required for the next hierarchical position that you are aspiring...May be the Annual Confidential Report (ACR) or equivalent forms will list the traits...then build up these...

Remember....PERFORMANCE and POTENTIAL...are the two most important things required to grow up in career ladder!!...we will see more in the remaining days to come...
